Skywest Golf Course is operated by the Hayward Area Recreation and Parks District (H.A.R.D). It was designed in 1964, five years after the present runway at the Hayward Airport became the principal runway (when the crosswind, east-west runway was abandoned), and is a buffer between the Hayward Airport runway and San Lorenzo Village homes.

The new airport layout plan desired by the City of Hayward would take out a large area of the existing golf course, and the proposed extension of West A Street would cut through the existing golf course.
