Student Pilot Veers off Runway

The student pilot of a single-engine aircraft veered off the runway of Hayward Airport while landing the aircraft shortly before 9 a.m. today. The pilot was not injured but the Cessna 152 aircraft's nose gear collapsed in the hard landing.

According to a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, Ian Gregor, the pilot lost control while landing. The student pilot was flying solo to qualify for his pilot's license, according to airport manager Doug McNeeley.

The aircraft (registry #N6427Q) is owned by Aviation Capital Management LLC, based in San Jose. The pilot is a San Carlos resident.
