A plane crashed near Palomares Road in the Hayward Hills Sunday night, killing the pilot, Robert Dowlett. Dowlett, the only person on board, was flying his small Beechcraft airplane from Boise, Idaho, to Palo Alto Airport, where the plane was based.
The crash area has been the site of three small-airplane accidents this year, according to helicopter pilot Randy Parent of East Bay Regional Parks District. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
In 1997 Dowlett crashed a Piper Arrow when he allegedly lost control after takeoff in Fort Bragg. Three passengers were injured in that crash, but Dowlett was not.
